HOW TO CARE FOR FURNITURE WITH FAUX LEATHER UPHOLSTERY
Although faux leather looks like genuine leather at first glance, there are some important differences in cleaning this kind of upholstery.
Here are a few basic rules for getting the most out of your faux leather seat and ensuring its longevity:
- Do not place your seat near a heat source such as a radiator or fireplace.
- Avoid exposure to excessive sunlight and humidity and extreme changes in temperature.
- Be careful with jeans that stain faux leather as these stains may be permanent.
- Keep away from pets with sharp claws and other sharp objects (e.g. nails, buckles, etc.).
Dust off regularly (preferably weekly), especially if the furniture has a padded seat. Vacuum with a soft brush tip nozzle or gently wipe with a soft, moistened cloth. Remove accidental stains as soon as possible.
First remove as much of the stain as possible with an absorbent cloth without rubbing. Since faux leather is more resistant to cleaning solutions and water, you can wash the entire faux leather surface with a mild detergent. Then rinse with lukewarm water and a soft, non-abrasive sponge. Clean all the soap from the faux leather surface.
Consider using a protective treatment as this will add a thin protective layer to the faux leather, making the surface easier to clean.
Baby oil is best for preventing cracks in faux leather. Pour a small amount of the oil on a soft cloth and spread without rubbing to evenly coat the surface. Otherwise, special leather conditioners are also effective at penetrating the pores of faux leather. These products improve the breathability of faux leather and give it an attractive shine. Applying a conditioner every four to six months will help you preserve the beauty of the faux leather.
